Louisiana has some of the most beautiful waterways in the entire United States, including several lakes and major rivers such as the Mississippi and the Sabine. These nutrient rich areas are very biodiverse and have everything from orchids growing alongside the shores, to tiny frogs living in the muddy waters, to sturgeon and paddlefish swimming in the waters, to ibis and egrets soaring high in the skies above. Much of the state's lands were formed when sediment washed down the Mississippi River, which left enormous deltas and vast areas of coastal marshes and swamps.
